United Musicians Association Chamber & Ensemble Certification
The UMA Chamber & Ensemble Music Proficiency Certification is designed to assess musicians performing in small to medium-sized groups, focusing on ensemble coordination, musical communication, and stylistic cohesion.
This certification applies to all instrumental combinations—duos, trios, quartets, quintets, and larger ensembles—across classical and contemporary chamber repertoire. Exams are video-based and evaluated by international UMA ensemble specialists.
Certification levels range from Grade 1 to Grade 9, with a Performance Diploma offered for professional-level ensemble artistry.
String Quartet / Trio / Quintet

Note: Solo performances are not eligible. Candidates must participate as part of a real ensemble.

Focus: Basic coordination, rhythmic unity, expressive phrasing
Examples: Easy duets or trios from Classical and Romantic periods (e.g., Haydn, Diabelli, Kuhlau)
🎼 Grades 6–9
Piece Count: 2 contrasting works
Focus: Balance, independence of voices, articulation, stylistic contrast
Examples: String quartets, piano trios, wind quintets, 20th-century works with extended techniques
